Job Description
What if you could shape a career as unique as you?
At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
We aim to become a leader in the energy transition to net zero through innovative technologies, renewables, and transforming existing assets on the journey to a decarbonised society.
A little bit more about your role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) Studies Expert to join our Power Systems Consulting team. You will analyze and improve the transient performance of power systems, ensuring stability, reliability, and resilience of electrical grids. Your insights will support the integration of renewable energy sources, HVDC systems, and FACTS devices, through detailed simulations and assessments for operational and planning decisions.
The team currently delivers:
- Modeling and simulating renewable energy sources (wind, solar) and converter-based systems (HVDC, STATCOM, SVC), including control systems to assess their impact on the grid.
- Developing EMT simulation models based on real-world data and equipment specifications.
- Conducting EMT simulations using PSCAD to analyze system behavior under transient conditions.
- Performing electromagnetic transient studies such as switching, fault, energization, TRV/ZMP, and insulation coordination studies.
- Analyzing voltage transients, switching overvoltages, lightning surges, and recommending system protections and improvements.
- Leading or participating in grid compliance studies to meet regulatory standards.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:
- Experience in grid integration of renewables, BESS, and smart grid technologies.
- Knowledge of national grid codes and standards (e.g., Grid Code, ENTSO-E, NERC, CIGRE).
- Understanding of grid-forming technology and control architectures.
