Job Summary
RNAS Culdrose is a strategically important airfield location and part of the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. It is a significant base for the Navy’s maritime Merlins and as one of Europe’s largest helicopter bases, it employs 3,000 people. It oversees the training of rotary winged aircrew, firefighters and increasingly, the development of uncrewed air systems and training of UAS operators.
RNAS Culdrose is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Records and Information Training Assurance Manager to join the Information Management team here in Cornwall. Sitting within the Corporate Services Department, the RMgr has responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of Records and Information Management. They will also be required to confidently deliver frequent training assurance and training delivery training to varying sized audiences regarding Information Management. The team includes Civilian and Military personnel, is led by the RMgr, and operates as part of the Corporate Services team within the Executive.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The role of Records and Information Training Assurance Manager is a vital part of the Information Management team at Culdrose. You will report to the Information Manager and assist with delivering their policies, and the role is split into two separate areas of responsibility.

  • The Records Manager element will be responsible for the management of RNAS Culdrose’s records in both paper and electronic form. As a Records Manager you will provide access to accurate records for a range of operational and strategic purposes, and will ensure that legal obligations for the creation and retention of records are met. This includes controlling the number of records created and stored, and identifying which records are to be preserved for historical and research purposes and which should be destroyed.
  • The Information Training and Assurance element will be responsible for supporting the Information Manager in the management and development of Culdrose Intranet sites and Communication channels. Also, to implement, deliver training regularly to varying sized audiences, and maintain the Information Management governance in conjunction with the Senior Information Officer (SIO) and Information Manager (iMgr). This includes providing a governance and assurance function (including training delivery) for IM related work and functions, with support from the Information Manager to ensure good practice is promoted to maintain compliance with statutory obligations.

Main Responsibilities
Your main day-to-day activities will be:

  • Ensuring compliance with the Public Records Act.
  • Implementing a records life cycle, ensuring adequate retention and disposal as and when required.
  • Overseeing Machinery of Government changes, ensuring new records are brought into the department securely and correctly.
  • Developing and embedding best practice records management policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing sensitivity review processes for physical and born-digital content.
  • Helping responses to information requests under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
  • Conducting file searches across archive holdings.
  • Liaising with stakeholders to identify training gaps or business needs.
  • Education and Training delivery as part of Training Assurance.
  • Support the Information Manager in the management and administration of Corporate Storage Locations. This includes Microsoft SharePoint and Teams sites, managing permission settings, site set-up and safeguarding content on OFFICIAL, and may include SECRET.
  • Supporting the Information Manager in conducting information audits to make sure assets are safeguarded and appropriate controls have been applied.
  • Support the Information Manager in developing and updating key intranet sites.
  • Manage and process SharePoint amendments, permissions changes, and site editing.
  • Providing advice on information management issues and promoting best practice relating to information management, including adherence to JSP441 and JSP440.
  • Collaborating with teams and networks across the organisation to understand concerns, build consensus and help KIM messaging ‘land’.
  • Highlight any compliance issues to the iMgr.

  • Supporting the Information Manager in developing appropriate retention and disposal schedules for electronic content.
