We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to join the Sequencing Methods Research Team as a Research Scientist to unlock transformative improvements in our molecular sensing capabilities.
Oxford Nanopore Technologies is headquartered at the Oxford Science Park outside Oxford, UK, with satellite offices and commercial presence in many global locations across the US, APAC and Europe.
Oxford Nanopore employs from multiple subject areas including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. Oxford Nanopore’s sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our Sequencing Methods Research team. This exciting and stimulating role involves developing novel methods to deliver target analytes to our nanopore sensors and to control their movement through the nanopore to unleash the full potential of our unique platform.

- Design innovative experiments to characterise the behaviour of DNA and other analytes within our platforms
- Create and test new DNA-based adapters for optimal sample delivery
- Leverage the rich data generated by Oxford Nanopore devices to unlock new insights
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, from synthetic chemistry to platform engineering, to develop next-generation analyte delivery technologies
Essential
What we are looking for…
- A PhD in Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related subjects OR 4+ years post-graduate experience in relevant industrial settings
- Solid understanding of protein and DNA structures
- Basic knowledge of the principles of nanopore sequencing
- Ability to quickly pick up new concepts and evaluate experimental design
Desirable
- Single-molecule assay experience
- Strong data analysis skills
- Ability to comprehend and interpret complex and interconnected experimental results
- Experience with Python or R and the Linux command line
