We’re looking for a Head of Policy to play a vital role in directing the policy development that will keep our energy system fair, affordable and fit for the future. Key Responsibilities:

Delivery of set of team deliverables, and managing and co-ordinating successful outcomes across team members and collaborating teams

  • Sets clear and transparent work objectives, milestones and success metrics at team and individual level to oversee and co-ordinate successful team outcomes.
  • Collaborates closely with other teams to manage interdependencies, risks and resourcing to support portfolio delivery.
  • Jointly responsible with the PDL on welfare and pastoral care of all colleagues.
  • Demonstrates effective diversity and inclusive team management within their team and the wider organisation.

Key Outputs And Deliverables:

  • Monitor, report and present on policy area, project statuses and issues to senior management
  • Clear and concise management papers and policy documents (such as consultations, decisions and guidance).
  • Effective solutions to address emerging policy issues or challenges in areas of responsibility
  • Engage with internal teams working across schemes to ensure development work is well coordinated
  • Ensure that a project plan, governance structure and other project management practices are in place and up to date, to ensure effective management of development activities
  • Lead on providing advice and data on future policy development
  • Contributes as part of the wider directorate senior leadership team, championing initiatives and driving change

Setting-up and leading high-performing team based on effective resource management, ongoing support and professional development

  • Manages effective and inclusive team resourcing and staff onboarding through close engagement with relevant Deputy Director, Workstream Managers, Heads of Professions, PDLs and HR Staffers to ensure best talent match to work needs.
  • Helps team members deliver by building supportive, inclusive team environment based on trust-based relationships, transparency and inclusivity.
  • Takes ownership for own and team members’ professional development by:
  • Providing ongoing coaching and identification of development opportunities in regular performance conversations.
  • Supporting team member’s performance evaluation through honest, fair, high quality 360 degree feedback to PDLs.

  • Extensive expertise in a policy leadership role, demonstrated through a strong record of high performance and significant achievements in previous positions. Proven ability to design policy implementation and delivery systems in collaboration with delivery partners and users to drive impactful outcomes. (LEAD)
  • Proven leadership ability, demonstrated through formal or informal management of teams. Skilled in driving high-performance outcomes, managing multiple priorities, and delivering against challenging deadlines within a policy implementation and service delivery environment. (LEAD)
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, including at senior levels. Extensive experience in fostering collaboration across diverse teams and championing cross-organisational linkages to develop cohesive and aligned strategic positions.
  • Proven ability to oversee a culture of strong analysis and decision making, especially regarding complex information.
  • Proven ability to manage change and implement process improvements.
