About

We are looking for a dynamic Media Communications Officer to join our dedicated communications team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with colleagues across communications and other departments to develop and deliver impactful communications plans to help engage and influence key audiences, supporting the organisation in protecting the public and assisting health and care professionals in delivering safe, high-quality care.

Specialising in media and public relations support, you will be part of a small, close-knit communications team. You should have experience building effective relationships with journalists, responding to media queries, identifying proactive opportunities, and communicating complex topics clearly and engagingly.

Your responsibilities will include managing multiple projects, developing communication plans, and creating compelling narratives for various areas of our work. You will utilize data, case studies, and storytelling techniques to bring our work to life for diverse audiences. The role involves drafting and pitching stories, supporting at events, and advising colleagues on media and communication matters.

Purpose and Main Duties

  • Deliver timely, clear, and impactful communication plans and activities across multiple channels.
  • Develop core narratives and key messages for campaigns and topics, translating complex materials into engaging, understandable content.
  • Monitor the press inbox and respond to journalist queries in a way that enhances the organisation\’s reputation.
  • Build relationships with journalists and identify opportunities to share positive stories through media outlets and external channels.
  • Draft and edit copy for various channels, adapting style to ensure effective messaging.
  • Use storytelling, case studies, data, and trusted voices to illustrate our standards and work.
  • Identify opportunities to engage target audiences.
  • Provide media relations support and advice for relevant Fitness to Practice cases in collaboration with the Health & Care Professions Tribunal Service.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in a media or communications role, ideally within the public or not-for-profit sector.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages for different audiences and channels.
  • Understanding of the UK media landscape and experience engaging with journalists, including drafting press releases, pitching stories, and handling inquiries.
  • Proactive, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Collaborative approach with strong relationship-building skills across teams and stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and political awareness, especially when dealing with sensitive or high-profile issues.

Additional Details

Location: London-based hybrid role, requiring 1-2 office days per week at our Kennington office.
