Black Cultural Archives (BCA) is the home of Black British history, and one of the most significant cultural institutions in the UK. Their mission is to collect, preserve and celebrate the histories of people of African and Caribbean descent in the UK, and to inspire and give strength to individuals, communities, and society.

Over more than four decades, they've welcomed leading activists, scholars, teachers, authors, broadcasters, artists, schoolchildren and communities. Their home at 1 Windrush Square in Brixton is both a vital public space and a national symbol of cultural pride, truth-telling and historical visibility.

BCA is now at a pivotal moment. Following a period of reflection and renewal, they have developed a bold strategy focused on sustainability, impact and institutional resilience. A governance refresh is currently underway, and they are recruiting both a new Chair and a new Managing Director who will work in close partnership to bring this vision to life.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead one of the UK’s most culturally significant institutions into its next chapter. As Managing Director, you’ll be responsible for inspiring and guiding the team, developing relationships with funders and partners, and overseeing delivery of BCA's strategic and operational plans.

You’ll bring strong leadership experience, a proven track record in income generation, and the ability to manage change and complexity with confidence and care. A people-focused, emotionally intelligent leader, you’ll work across communities and sectors, championing BCA’s mission and securing its future.

Above all, you’ll share a belief in the transformative power of Black British history – not just as a heritage story, but as a force for equity, understanding and social change.
