About the Royal School of Needlework (RSN)
No other single organisation covers the breadth of work undertaken by the Royal School of Needlework. They utilise over 150 years of remarkable history, knowledge, and expertise to teach, practice, and promote the art of hand embroidery. Their endeavours are underpinned by their values of Tradition, Quality and Innovation.
Based at Hampton Court Palace in south-west London, the RSN offers an education programme for everyone, from beginners to those pursuing hand embroidery as a professional career. It shares its knowledge, skills, and heritage through talks, tours, exhibitions, and online resources.
The RSN are undergoing an organisational transformation and developing a programme to extend its reach and diversity through collaborations and partnerships. This aims to generate more income and extend the positive individual benefits of stitching within three main areas: well-being and independence, culture and heritage, and sustainability.
Job Requirements
About the role
We are seeking a confident and strategic Philanthropy Manager to take the lead on building and nurturing relationships with major donors, high-net-worth individuals, and key supporters.
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing and growing RSN's giving circles and philanthropic programmes
- Identifying and cultivating new donors through research, events, and proposals
- Leading stewardship events and donor engagement activity
- Supporting the development of a new legacy giving programme
- Collaborating with teams across RSN to build compelling cases for support
- Writing high-quality donor communications, funding proposals, and reports
- Monitoring impact and ensuring best-practice data management using our CRM
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on relationship-building and is excited by the chance to shape and grow a high-impact philanthropy programme in the arts and education sector.
Job Responsibilities
Who we are looking for
We're looking for a driven and personable fundraiser with a passion for building lasting relationships and a track record in securing major gifts.
You will bring:
- At least 3 years of experience in philanthropy, fundraising or major donor development
- Excellent communication skills and confidence in face-to-face donor engagement
- Strong skills in proposal writing, stewardship, and donor journey planning
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- Experience organising cultivation events and working with senior stakeholders
- Strong CRM and data management experience
- A passion for arts, heritage, education, or craft
