Job Description
The Company
A fast-growing commercial property consultancy is seeking a Head of Business Rates (MRICS) to build and lead a new occupier-focused service line.
This firm has developed a strong reputation as a disruptor in the commercial property space, working exclusively for occupiers and challenging a market that has historically favoured landlords. By cutting through jargon and streamlining the office acquisition and relocation process, they’ve become a trusted partner to some of the most ambitious businesses in London.
Having grown rapidly since launching in 2015, the business remains positive, collaborative, and people-first — driven by a shared mission to deliver honest, high-quality advice to clients while constantly evolving and improving as a team.
The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to build a Business Rates function from scratch within a forward-thinking and entrepreneurial consultancy. The incoming Head of Business Rates will have full ownership of the service line — from setting strategy and leading delivery to building a team and developing long-term client relationships.
With full support from the board and close collaboration with agency, workplace, and project delivery teams, this is a role for someone who wants to shape something meaningful and deliver measurable value to occupier clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead a Business Rates offering focused solely on the needs of occupiers, particularly within commercial office space
- Provide clear, strategic advice on rating assessments, mitigation strategies, appeals, and relief opportunities
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver integrated advice across office search, workplace consultancy, and project delivery
- Win new business and drive revenue growth through both new and existing client relationships
- Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team as the service line scales
- Ensure all work complies with RICS guidance and upholds the consultancy’s high standards
- Monitor and interpret changes in policy, legislation, and market conditions to keep clients ahead of the curve
Candidate Profile
- MRICS-qualified Business Rates professional with 10+ years of experience
- Strong background advising occupiers on business rates strategy and appeal management
- Deep understanding of the commercial office market and how Business Rates impacts operational decision-making
- Proven business developer with a strong personal network and a track record of winning work
- Clear communicator with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
- Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and excited by the opportunity to build a new offering within a dynamic business
What’s on Offer
- Leadership role in a fast-growing and progressive consultancy
- Competitive salary plus strong commission, bonus, and equity participation
- Hybrid working model with a central London office
- Vibrant, supportive culture focused on collaboration, honesty, and ambition
- Real autonomy and backing to build and shape a service line
