Introduction

Our Client's 24-hour hospital in Thurmaston, Leicester, is seeking a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join their growing and recently refurbished practice. With a strong surgical caseload and a pivotal role in providing OOH support for the region, this is an exciting opportunity for a clinically confident vet who thrives in a leadership role and is looking to support the growth of a flagship site.

Working Hours / Rota

This is a full-time position working 4 days per week (Monday to Friday) with 1 in 6 weekends, including a shared bank holiday rota. There is no on-call requirement. The practice is also open to discussing part-time options.

Role Description

As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional clinical and client care across consultations and surgical cases. You’ll also mentor colleagues, contribute to operational performance, and help drive the continued development of the hospital. Duties include team engagement, clinical governance, mentoring, compliance, and enhancing efficiency by allocating clinical tasks effectively.

Team Size

You will be supported by a structured team including a Head Veterinary Nurse, five RVNs, and three Client Care Assistants. The collaborative culture and growing team are ideal for a leader who values mentorship and wants to nurture veterinary talent.

The practice currently operates with three consult rooms and has plans for future expansion to enhance both capacity and workflow.

The ideal candidate will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon confident in both consulting and surgery, with prior leadership experience or readiness to step into a senior role.
