Are you ready to lead with purpose and make a lasting impact on the future of energy infrastructure?
As our new Head of Safety and Engineering , you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the safety, health, engineering, environmental and security standards within Capital Delivery along with providing the design, technical and construction assurance required across our portfolio of construction activities.
A senior leadership position where you’ll ensure compliance with critical legislation and internal systems, including our Safety Management System (SMS), Integrated Assurance ManagementSystem (IAMS), Quality Management Systems (QMS), engineering policies, procedures and standards always ensuring we maintain the integrity of the Safety Case.
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of risk management, working closely with Project Directors and Project Managers to identify, mitigate, and control risks across a diverse and complex programme of works. The range of works within Capital Delivery is both varied and exciting and includes investment works on our above 7 bar assets, third party works, physical and operational system security and green gas projects including Hydrogen and Biomethane.
Your passion, strategic oversight, leadership and ability to impact will be essential in ensuring excellence across our safety, engineering and assurance activities. With a team of approx. 200 professionals operating within Capital Delivery and across the North West, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England and North London this role will be challenging, interesting and incredibly enjoyable.
Collaboration and the ability to clearly communicate at all levels is key. You’ll work together with our internal network teams, central functions, and our many contract partners to drive excellence in all that we do whilst sharing and embedding best practice for continual improvement. Why You\’ll Love This Role:
- Leadership Across Safety and Engineering Functions – Drive excellence in safety, health, engineering, assurance, environment, and security across Capital Delivery. Lead process safety controls whilst embedding a strong safety culture across our internal teams and contract partners.
- Compliance, Assurance, and Governance – Ensure full compliance with industry legislation, internal systems and engineering policies.
- Risk and Change Management – Lead Capital Delivery’s risk management strategy, ensuring robust processes for identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks. Provide assurance over management of change and technical delivery processes.
- Operational Oversight and Performance Monitoring – Oversee functional compliance, audits, and incident investigations. Ensure timely closure of actions from assurance reviews and incidents, and act as an escalation point for high-risk issues. Monitor performance using data and technology to drive continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration – Collaborate with central teams and contract partners to highlight risks and share best practices. Provide strategic input to the Senior Leadership Team and support cross-functional initiatives.
- Team Development and Leadership – Lead and develop the Safety and Engineering team within Capital Delivery, fostering a high-performance culture.
What You\’ll Bring:
- Professional Qualifications – Possess a full UK driving licence and hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status and/or Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- Industry Expertise – Demonstrated knowledge of process safety, occupational safety, engineering excellence along with practical experience across design, technical and construction assurance in hazardous industries.
- Leadership Experience – Proven ability to lead and positive influence large, multi-disciplinary teams across geographically dispersed in high-risk environments
- Influential Communication – Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build commitment and action across diverse operational teams.
- Stakeholder and Performance Management – Experience engaging with external stakeholders such as regulators, agencies, and customers, alongside a track record of driving performance and leading transformational change.
