About The Team
Publishing research is at the core of Elsevier’s business. We help ensure quality research accelerates progress for society by organising the review, editing and dissemination of around 17% of the world’s scientific articles.
The Submissions team develops tools and services to support authors, reviewers, and journal editors through the academic publishing process. Our efforts will help researchers and healthcare professionals advance science and improve outcomes for the benefit of society.
About The Role
As a UX/UI Designer, you will partner closely with cross-functional product and engineering teams to deliver services by identifying problems, developing workflows, and creating and user-testing new solutions. You will own all aspects of design for your team, solving and delivering solutions to complex UX challenges, while using our design system to ensure cross-product consistency. You will be part of a design team of 15 with an enthusiastic, innovative culture that sits within a larger design community of practice at Elsevier.
Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers and engineers to define the roadmap and backlog, and to ensure strategic alignment and effective working processes.
  • Support designers and researchers in conducting user research and testing to understand user needs and inform your design decisions.
  • Ideate and prototype quickly and produce detailed design deliverables to ship your designs into production.
  • Ensure your product designs meet user needs, support business goals, are technically feasible, and are consistent with our design system.
  • Collaborate with designers on other products to create aligned experiences.
  • Help improve our design team practices, and support other designers as needed, as well as engage with the design community at Elsevier.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a UX/UI or product designer.
  • A portfolio that displays a range of your work to date, including User Experience (UX), User Interface design (UI), and ideally User Research.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in producing UX flows, design concepts, high-fidelity designs, and prototypes using Figma or similar tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with designers, product managers, and developers, and communicate persuasively to influence decisions.
  • Experience in delivering products in an Agile environment.
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to tackle complex problem spaces.
