Salary: circa 50,000 – 65,000

This 30-year-old, upmarket, principal contractor specializes in London\’s high-end residential and commercial construction and refurbishment projects. Their work has been featured in publications including RIBA Interiors, The Times Magazine, and Terence Conran\’s Essential Handbook.

The company has re-evaluated its procurement management system and is looking to recruit an experienced materials buyer. Currently, procurement is handled by quantity surveyors and site teams, which may not always secure the best prices. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to implement a new procurement management system that ensures a controlled buying process and cost savings.

Buyer Role Summary:

The role requires an experienced individual with in-depth construction materials knowledge, capable of demonstrating key skills in:

  1. Tender enquiry, analysis, negotiation, and raising/issuing Purchase Orders.
  2. Market knowledge of suppliers and manufacturers, with the ability to negotiate terms.
  3. Good all-round construction buying experience and competent IT skills.

Further Requirements – must have experience:

  • Working in procurement for a reputable construction contractor.
  • Material buying activities, including cost negotiation, payment terms, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and strong supplier relationships.
  • Placing purchase orders, updating logs, and tracking deliveries.
  • Stock strategy, bulk buying, and stock movement management.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Regular order checks to highlight outstanding items.
  • Managing paperwork for stock tracking and cost allocation.
  • Checking and authorizing payment invoices.
  • Improving procurement systems.
