SP Energy Networks (SPEN) are working to achieve 2030 transmission network targets set by the Scottish and UK Government. SPEN will invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to be at the forefront of innovative engineering! You will be pathing the way to NetZero using new technologies to develop and deliver engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above) for the ever-evolving energy landscape.
As a vital part of SPEN, you will be exposed to a wide range of new and emerging responsibilities, and at a pivotal time as ScottishPower leads the fight against climate change and strives to deliver our ambitious growth and investment plans. You can expect to be working with and learning from a broad range of stakeholders from across SPEN, the Iberdrola Group and relevant external bodies.
What You’ll Be Doing
A Lead Engineer within SP Transmission Operations (Circuits) leads a team of professionals who are focussed on inspection, maintenance and fault repair of the cable systems and may also include the refurbishment of the cable and overhead line systems to extend the life of the asset.
This position has 3 direct and 3 indirect reports, and will manage the daily prioritisation of duties across the team. The postholder will collaborate with peers within Operations and other business areas to ensure the successful delivery of operational plans.
The Successful Person Will Be Responsible For

  • Managing the safety and compliance culture to ensure compliance with all legislation across Transmission Circuits.
  • Ensuring assigned resources are deployed to maximise effectiveness.
  • Providinge technical support to a team of Senior Engineers dealing with the Capital Refurbishment Programme.
  • Delivering a maintenance and replacement programme in line with agreed resources, timelines and costs.
  • Financial management of all activities including forecasting through the year on all activities and tracking performance against regulatory allowances.
  • Conducting site and operational audits on the team and capturing feedback and issues and addressing any non-conformances.
  • Compliance with OFGEM and internal levels of service.

What You’ll Bring

  • Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and practices.
  • Developed customer service, negotiation, communication and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
  • Ability to assess, prioritise and confidently make decisions in a dynamic service environment whilst anticipating issues and implementing effective management strategies.
  • Working knowledge of industrial relations framework.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
