The Civil Engineering Apprentice (Degree) is responsible for supporting the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost, and quality requirements. Coordinates with all relevant parties to understand and deliver project objectives set out in the project plans.
Develops direct and/or indirect management of external parties (consultants and contractors) coordinating others, to achieve project key performance indicators (KPIs). Manages small parts of projects independently, with oversight from an APM/PM.
This position will be required to attend the University of West London (Ealing Site) one day a week. You will be working towards BEng Civil Engineering Degree over 4 years.
Key Responsibilities:
•To support and report to the Assistant Project Manager and/or Project Manager in all the elements related to the construction/design, programme of works and commercial issues of the works.
•To support the co-ordination between the construction, design, procurement, and commercial departments to ensure the sub-contracts are awarded and work started in accordance with the schedule of works.
•To ensure that client requirements regarding the functionality and standards are met, ensuring that all quality, assurance, and compliance documentation is provided in a timely manner.
•To assist a high performing team through the setting of clear SMART targets via the team plan and complying with the performance management process for all team members.
•To promote and deliver works in accordance with client standards and without defects. Ensuring works are monitored to achieve right first-time workmanship and undertaking lessons learnt reviews to promote continuous improvement, while maintaining daily records.
•To promote and deliver a collaborative environment throughout all members of the team including stakeholders and the supply chain, establishing, and maintaining site organisation and facilitate effective communications between the Employer’s representatives.
•To promote, champion and implement all best practice, safety management and safety initiatives across all aspect of design and site delivery, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment is achieved for all.
•Attends and records relevant meetings, providing relevant parties with contextual information and analysis, including regular site walks. Assists in tracking project changes and ensuring they are processed and formalised within the agreed timeframes. Partners with relevant stakeholders and is actively involved in risk management and mitigation treatments.
•Updates and manages existing project plans, processes, and procedures to contribute to the successful delivery of projects under direction.
•Assists in providing handover documentation prior to practical completion.
•Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
Qualifications, Certifications and Experience:
•To be eligible for the apprenticeship, you should have 112-120 UCAS tariff points from Level 3 qualifications, including A-Level Mathematics. Additionally, you should have GCSE qualifications (Level 2) in English, Mathematic and Science with grades A*-A or 9-7.
•Having a good working knowledge of English, both written and verbal.
•Developing knowledge and experience in project management, manages small sized projects/elements of larger projects.
•Developing knowledge of construction and industry and understanding of programme, scheduling, procurement, and reporting.
•Developing budgetary oversight expertise and knowledge.
•Developing understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
•Developing communication, presentation and project planning and development skills (using appropriate tools).
•Effectively communicating information, actively listening, and building relationships with colleagues and the client.
•Identifying issues, analysing situations, and finding effective solutions.
•Working collaboratively with others to achieve common goals.
