Are you a passionate and dynamic music educator with a flair for leadership? ArtForms are seeking an enthusiastic and visionary Head of Centre to lead our vibrant community of young musicians and dedicated tutors at Wetherby Music Centre.

As Head of Wetherby Music centre, you will have:

About The Role
ArtForms Music + Arts ( ) is Leeds City Council music service which supports learners in music and artistic activities throughout Leeds. Our music service provides tuition to 14,000 young people across the city, through a combination of school-based lessons, youth music groups and community music centres.
Wetherby Music Centre is one of a network of five Music Centres across the city. Open on Saturday mornings during term time at Wetherby High School, it provides instrumental ensembles and classes for adults and children in the local area. The advertised hours includes both the music centre opening times and additional time to complete management responsibilities required for the role. The additional time can be worked flexibly in agreement with the line manager.
As our next Head of Wetherby Music Centre, you will provide strategic and inspiring leadership to a committed team of instrumental tutors, while nurturing and expanding high-quality musical opportunities for children, young people, and adults across the local community. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will play a key role in realising the vision and aims of ArtForms, and ensure the centre continues to thrive as an inclusive hub for community music making.

Job purpose: To manage and develop Wetherby Music Centre
Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and developing the Music Centre that already exists in this part of the city
  • Providing imaginative leadership and a sense of identity and purpose to staff and students
  • Maintaining and developing the activities of the Centre as a vibrant focus for music in the local community
  • Outreach and promotion of the Centre, for example through community liaison and involvement, visiting schools and working with other local partners
  • Line manage and support a team of instrumental and vocal tutors including conducting observations and appraisals.
  • Effective oversight of all sessions when the Centre is open
  • Attending meetings for all Heads of Centre
  • Planning and timetabling of the centre programme, including room bookings via Lettings
  • Liaising with the host school as necessary
  • Organising external/internal activities and events
  • An oversight of the music centre budget, and ensuring the music centre remains sustainable
  • Overseeing student registration and fee collection.
  • Dealing with enquiries from members of the public
  • Providing statistical summaries, client analyses and termly registers for ArtForms as necessary

Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in music or music education
  • Strong musical background with experience in ensemble direction or music education.
  • Proven leadership and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to inclusive and accessible music-making.
  • Experience in teaching tuition groups
