About the Role
Charnwood Borough Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Housing Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a key role in supporting the financial management of our Housing Service (General Fund and Housing Revenue Account), helping to ensure the delivery of high-quality housing services to our tenants and residents.
You will work closely with colleagues across the Housing and Finance teams to provide expert financial advice, support budget setting and monitoring, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead on the preparation and monitoring of the HRA budget and business plan
• Provide financial support and insight to housing managers and heads of service
• Ensure compliance with the Local Government Finance Act, CIPFA codes, and other relevant regulations
• Prepare year-end HRA accounts and support the external audit process
• Contribute to rent setting, service charge reviews, and long-term financial modelling
• Assist in the development of financial strategies to support service improvement and sustainability
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
• A qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) or actively studying towards qualification
• Experienced in local government finance, ideally with knowledge of the HRA and housing services
• Skilled in financial planning, budget monitoring, and financial reporting
• A confident communicator, able to explain complex financial information clearly and concisely
• Proficient in using financial systems and Excel to analyse and present data effectively
