The role: Material Supplier

The London Gatwick team are responsible for processing, storing and delivering aircraft tools and materials used by BA Engineering across our global route network. The team are the critical link between Supply Chain and Production Engineering, ensuring a high-quality standard in our warehouse and stores. Our logistics team operate 24/7 and 365 days a year, ensuring we operate with maximum efficiency, speed and with the greatest attention to detail. No single shift is the same!

Our colleagues play an integral part in the operation. The role has plenty of variety and responsibility with safety and quality being high on the agenda. Keeping the customer at the heart of everything we do, you\’ll always be ready to get the job done in a high spirited and enthusiastic way.

You\’ll be quality checking, receipting, issuing and dispatching materials and tooling within the stores and warehouse environment. You could also be delivering and distributing critical aircraft materials around Heathrow using our 3.5-ton box vans. You will be using various types of forklifts for loading/unloading vehicles and for the maneuvering and storage of materials

What would you need?

  • Be able to satisfy BA medical requirements for obtaining the necessary licences/permits for the role.
  • Ideally some experience in warehousing/logistics processes and procedures, but a detailed and quality led approach is key to deliver to the high standards we require.
  • PC literate as you will need to enter and record material data on our central system.

Training and Development

  • Up to 4 weeks Induction Training for the role, which includes health and safety processes, forklift driving course, SAP system use, manual handling and shadowing colleagues to ensure you are fully trained and confident to perform the role.
  • On-going compliance training in the role.

What you\’ll do:

  • Transact aircraft materials and tools in accordance with the current technical procedures and processes.
  • Deliver, move and distribute materials/tools to meet the needs of the operation.
  • Ensure good storekeeping practices and quality standards are maintained to a high level at all times.
  • Responsible for compliance with health & safety, environment and quality legislation.
  • Maintain stock accuracy via a cyclic audit process.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Provide expertise in relation to Dangerous Goods & Road Transportation regulations (where relevant IATA/ADR course certification/knowledge is held).
  • Receipt aircraft materials into British Airways Engineering in accordance with the privileges granted under approval of being an MIA stamp holder (in circumstances where deemed to be required by the business and an individual holds an MIA stamp).
  • Exercise personal responsibility and reasonable care in preventing harm to yourself and others by ensuring that safe working practices are observed at all times

What you\’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Meticulousness attention to detail.
  • IT literate and have the ability to learn the required systems for the role.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Audit & audit functions.
  • Ability to understand and deliver to operational targets.
  • Must have the ability to work a shift pattern.

Your experience:

  • Level 2 Qualifications (or equivalent) including Maths and English (Essential).
  • Already hold or ability to qualify for an Airside Pass (Essential).
  • Already hold or ability to acquire a Counterbalance forklift licence and additional truck licences (with training) (Essential).
  • Full UK DVLA Driving Licence, category B for manual transmission (minimum of 12 months driving experience with a full licence and no more than three penalty points) (Desirable).
  • Already hold or ability to obtain an Airside Driving Permit (with training) (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods and Road Transportation regulations (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of supply chain logistics (Preferred).
  • IATA/ADR course certification relating to Dangerous Goods (Desirable).

Important: This is a physical role and day-to-day work will involve repetitive and sometimes heavy lifting. Your health and safety is important. If you are in any doubt about your medical fitness to undertake these activities, you should first discuss this with your GP
