Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Process Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P company based in central Aberdeen. It is a core ongoing contract position, that is anticipated to be a long-term opportunity, and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.

The Senior Process Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing day to day support to offshore and/or onshore assets as primary focal point when it is required.
  • Providing process engineering support for process plant performance – identifying areas for improvement, undertaking trials and studies and suggesting the most economic option for future advances, across all company assets.
  • Responsibility for key process documents, such as PFDs and P&IDs, and providing support to other discipline key documents such as C&Es, A&T’s etc.
  • Identifying and developing work scopes that enhance strategic objectives, including safety and environmental performance, efficiency performance and reliability/availability of all process systems, especially safety systems that minimise risk and eliminate potential hazards.
  • Supporting asset risk register process, providing support into the process of managing and mitigating risks to production, safety, and the environment.
  • Challenging the effectiveness of current operational practices, to stimulate innovative ideas to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Managing process design delivery for the asset and managing contractor delivery against those designs.
  • Proactively supporting and participating in process safety incident and equipment failure investigations.
  • Developing and managing relationships with the Operations and Maintenance Teams, as well as with core contractors.
  • Holding engineering service providers accountable for high quality deliverables.
  • Active participation in reviews and in risk and hazard assessment activities. Resolving problems in a range of contexts from risk assessments to physical changes to plant.
  • Oversight over operational risk assessments, evaluating and endorsing deviations against standards and normal plant operational activities.
  • Identifying choke points and proposing solutions for future operations based on future production curves.
  • Evaluation and endorsement of plant isolations out of compliance with company standards in line with the Delegation of Authority structure.
  • Supporting Plant Management of Change requests including screening of requests, definition of SORs and technical assurance and supporting through execution.
  • Participating in asset HAZOP, PHR, LOPA and risk assessments, including active participation in the actions close out process.
  • Evaluating and endorsing safety critical maintenance backlog deferrals as and when necessary.
  • Supporting integrated asset planning processes.
  • Providing cover for the Technical Authority or Asset Engineers as required.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A Chemical/Process Engineering degree qualification is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer status with IChemE is essential.
  • Current/valid offshore certification is essential.
  • Previous experience of providing process engineering support to front-line operations of a major offshore production facility is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, directly with a North Sea-based operator, would be preferred.
  • Applicants should have experience of providing process engineering support to upstream and mid-stream process facilities.
  • Knowledge of Process and Major Accident Hazard (MAH) prevention technical practices and legislation (for offshore and onshore) is essential.
  • Applicants should have experience of successfully closing out actions generated in HAZOP, LOPA and PHR sessions.
  • Applicants should have knowledge of all forms of engineering documentation including block diagrams, PFDs, P&IDs, data sheets, cause and effect charts and safety critical elements.
