Job Description

Our client, a Local Authority based in the South-West, is currently recruiting for an Education Lawyer on a 3 month locum contract.

The position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis, but they are also open to part-time applicants. The hourly rate is circa £55 p/hour via an Umbrella company, but this can be negotiable based on experience and expectations.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor or suitably qualified Legal Executive, and have significant experience within Education law.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing expert legal advice, representation, and case management on matters relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Supporting the Council’s statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and related legislation, ensuring lawful, fair, and effective decision-making in the best interests of children and young people
  • Completing weekly case management with Senior Assessment Officers holding tribunal and mediation casework, supporting and advising on key decisions
  • Triaging tribunal and mediation casework
  • Holding most complex tribunal cases – preparing and attending hearings
  • Providing advice and support across wider SEND team and delivering training
  • Compiling quality assuring bundles

Experience required:

  • Experience required in Local Government
  • Experience with complex Education/SEN legal matters
