The Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our DNS Product, delivering an integrated Domain Name System product for our customers. This is a key role with responsibility for the full development lifecycle of one of Nominet’s new product offerings.
You will manage a highly skilled team who are a combination of deep experts in the Domain Name System (DNS) itself or software engineers who develop custom applications that support the DNS product stack.
The role will require a combination of leading by example at a technical level in addition to working effectively with Enterprise Architecture and Product Management to ensure any solution meets customer needs.
What You\’ll Be Doing
Management of DNS Product Engineering Team:
- Manage, mentor and develop a high-performing team to achieve department and organisational goals, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and innovative environment
- Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet business needs
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development
Technical Leadership:
- Excellent understanding of DNS technologies needed to deliver a working, tested high quality software product
- Provide technical expertise, guide the design, implementation, and operation of our DNS product and associated services
Software Integration:
- Manage the integration of open source and Nominet developed components into a working solution using a fully automated continuous delivery approach
- Develop, test and certify software builds against different cloud and on-premise infrastructures
- Work closely with the Head of DNS Engineering, Enterprise Architecture Team and Product team to engineer a leading integrated DNS product for recursive and authoritative DNS.
- Ensure that our DNS product stack is engineered in line with strategy
- Ensure software is secure by design and fit for distribution in high cyber threat environments.
Project Delivery:
- Deliver DNS product work in line with the strategy, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
- Manage risks and ensure that all solutions are rigorously tested to our high standards of quality.
About You
- Established Engineering Manager with expertise in DNS and DNS protocol
- An authentic, positive people manager adept at guiding and motivating teams
- A natural problem solver with the mindset for excellence across the entire software development lifecycle – design, engineering and operations
Required Skills
- Expertise in DNS: Experience with DNS protocols (such as DNSSEC, DoH/T/Q), and nameserver implementations such as those by ISC, NLNetLabs, and OpenXchange.
- DNS Security Knowledge: Deep understanding of DNS security practices,
including DNSSEC, DDoS mitigation, and related technologies
- Programming experience with more than one programming language, typically
C, C++, C#, Scala, Java, Python
- Networking Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of networking principles,
including IP addressing, routing, and load balancing, as they relate to DNS
- Knowledge of using BGP to deliver DNS services via IPAnycast
- Comfortable working with highly secure environments
- Hands-on experience with large scale distributed systems, web applications and cloud platforms
