The Head of STEM will provide leadership and vision to deliver excellent student outcomes, quality assurance and enhancement recognized by the QAA, and curriculum innovation through strong collaboration with the University and the network.
You will lead and support our academic team, reporting to the Deputy Director of Curriculum and Progression. You will work closely with senior colleagues within and outside the Centre and be responsible for achieving contractually required progression rates to the University. You will also set the strategic direction for STEM at the centre.
The role includes responsibilities for Foundation and PMP matters within STEM. The successful candidate will have recent successful academic line management experience in a relevant discipline and proven ability to engage with a HEI in collaborative developments.
This is a full-time position requiring physical presence at the centre. Responsibilities include supporting junior colleagues, tracking tutors\’ work, teaching as needed (covering sickness and vacancies), engaging with the university on pathway opportunities, attending events, and representing the Centre academically and pastorally.

- Develop the academic partnership with the University of Surrey, including articulation routes for recruitment
- Create programme pathways aligned with the Centre\’s strategic aims as a high-quality route to UK HE
- Contribute to planning and development in HR, academic development, learning, teaching, assessment, and quality assurance as part of the Academic Management Team
- Participate in university partnership Boards and Committees, liaising with university colleagues and reporting on progress
- Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats; collaborate with other Heads of Subject and Senior Management to address issues
- Manage staff resources effectively across academic and support teams, ensuring timely recruitment and compliance
- Ensure academic staff meet expectations and provide performance feedback
- Participate in meetings and represent the Centre externally
- Maintain academic standards, quality of learning, and accurate information publication
- Ensure compliance with quality frameworks, policies, and procedures of Study Group, Surrey University, and external agencies
- Contribute to progress in the Centre Action Plan and analyze data/feedback to monitor progress and implement remedial actions
- Prepare reports for internal and external scrutiny
- Work with Student Experience and other teams to deliver effective timetables and assessments, and ensure staff recruitment compliance
- Contribute to curriculum delivery and assessment, oversee the VLE, and support a cost-effective, high-quality environment
- Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are met and staff are aware of their obligations
- Address day-to-day issues efficiently and effectively
- Ensure compliance with UKVI regulations regarding student attendance and registration
- Deputize for senior leaders when needed
- Build relationships within the organization and with external partners, agents, and sponsors
- Develop effective working relations with key university partners, including Pathway Tutors

- Bachelor’s degree and postgraduate qualification
- Leadership experience in a complex, multidisciplinary environment with proven success
- Experience providing constructive performance feedback
- HR experience, including training delivery and recruitment
- Ability to delegate, set deadlines, and oversee tasks to meet challenging timelines
- Experience in internal communication and disseminating complex messages
