Who we are
Skytanking are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Health and Safety Director to lead and oversee all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) operations supporting our ground handling, ULD and cargo businesses in the U.K., Netherlands and Italy. This role is ideally based in London but will require travel to our operational sites. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with national aviation safety regulations, drive a proactive safety culture, and implement programs that safeguard the wellbeing of employees, passengers, contractors, and the environment across all operational areas including ground handling, maintenance, flight operations, and administration. Your tasks Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the organisation\’s comprehensive health and safety strategy aligned with aviation industry standards and corporate goals.
- Serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on all matters related to occupational safety and aviation regulatory compliance.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including CAA, EASA, ICAO, HSE UK, and local safety laws.
- Oversee the management and resolution of safety-related audits, inspections, and investigations.
- Lead risk assessments and safety management system (SMS) programs in accordance with ICAO Annex 19.
Safety Program Oversight
- Monitor and continuously improve safety performance metrics (e.g., incident rates, audit findings, corrective actions).
- Implement training programs for staff on safety policies, emergency response procedures, and best practices.
- Champion a just culture approach to incident reporting and safety improvement.
Incident Response and Investigation
- Lead root cause analysis for serious incidents and accidents, ensuring lessons learned are implemented effectively.
- Coordinate with national aviation authorities and internal teams during incident investigations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, airport authorities, airline partners, unions, and safety representatives.
- Lead internal safety committees and represent the company at industry safety forums and working groups.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor the health and safety team, fostering professional development and high performance.
- Allocate resources effectively to support safety initiatives across departments and geographies.
Your Profile Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Aviation Safety, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in health and safety roles, with at least 5 years in aviation or aerospace environments.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH, or equivalent credential preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of aviation safety regulations, ICAO SMS framework, and emergency preparedness.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with auditing, incident investigation, and risk assessment methodologies.
