Job Description
Assistant Editor, Professional Development and Learning – CambridgeCirca:Salary – Salary Plan, 30,000.00 GBP AnnualWe are currently looking for an Assistant Editor, Professional Development and Learning (PD&L) on an 18 – months contract. In this role you will collaborate closely with the PD&L Programme Manager and our Education team to create and deliver exceptional online continuing professional development (CPD) courses that make a difference to our audiences, including teachers of chemistry. You will be at the heart of developing cutting-edge, on-demand learning experiences that meet the evolving needs and expectations of our key stakeholders.
Your role will encompass the full content development lifecycle—from commissioning and curating high-quality materials to working alongside talented freelance authors, editors, and content developers. This is an exciting opportunity to develop content that maximises the capabilities of our online learning platform (LXP), ensuring we deliver engaging, accessible professional development that makes a real impact on teachers' careers and expertise.Responsibilities: Contribute to commissioning and development plans for CPD courses. Commission content for the RSC’s teacher CPD courses hosted on the LXP – including video, animation, interactive content and supporting documentation.Edit CPD materials to the level of accuracy and quality required for publication.Re-develop existing courses to leverage the features of the LXP. Consider any legal issues related to publishing, including that associated copyright concerns are adequately managed. Work with both the Professional Development and Resources teams to ensure continuity between CPD courses and teaching resources, including adherence to quality assurance processes and language and style guides.Liaise with authors and QA reviewers and manage professional relationships with a range of freelance contributors.
Build and maintain our network of education contractors and engage proactively and collaboratively with contributors to resolve problems and ensure deadlines are met.Edit, upload and publish content on our online learning platform.Develop ideas for and source, images and other visual material to enhance courses as needed.Support, collate and evaluate user testing of new materials ensuring that findings are used to shape future content development.Develop a strong understanding of the needs of chemistry teachers and the challenges they face across all education sectors in the UK and internationally.Prioritise work to coincide with production and project schedules.
