Job Description

Navantia UK is a leading provider of innovative naval solutions, specialising in the design, construction, and lifecycle support of naval ships. Based in Bristol, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Arrangement and Outfit Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality naval architecture solutions for naval and complex commercial shipbuilding projects.

Job Description

The Lead Arrangement and Outfit Engineer, works closely with other engineering teams, including naval architecture, structural engineering, and systems engineering, to ensure the seamless integration of the ship’s internal systems, layout, and cutting-edge technologies.

The role requires extensive experience in developing complex ship general arrangements and key plans that consider critical factors such as escape, evacuation and rescue, access, storing, munitions, and removal routes. You and your team will also develop seamanship arrangements,medical arrangements, aviation arrangements, equipment integration for mission systems, and ensure the ship’s layout supports mission modularity and the integration of uncrewed systems.

  • Lead the arrangement and outfit engineering team, providing technical direction and ensuring the integration of all shipboard systems and layouts.
  • Oversee the design of internal ship arrangements, including crew spaces, machinery spaces, accommodation, aviation areas, and all other outfitting areas, ensuring that they meet operational, safety, regulatory standards, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Integrate aviation requirements into ship designs, including aviation spaces such as flight decks, hangars, and aircraft handling systems.
  • Develop complex ship general arrangements and key plans, considering critical requirements such as escape, evacuation and rescue, access, storing, munitions, and removal routes to ensure operational functionality and safety.
  • Design the aesthetic styling of exterior and internal spaces, ensuring that crew areas are visually appealing, ergonomically optimized, and in line with the ship’s overall design and mission.
  • Integrate mission modularity, ensuring that the ship's internal and external spaces are adaptable to accommodate evolving operational requirements, and enabling the future integration of new technologies.
  • Collaborate with naval architects, structural engineers, and systems engineers to ensure integrated and efficient designs across all areas of the ship.
  • Support the integration of uncrewed system requirements into ship designs, ensuring that systems are adaptable for uncrewed operations and future technology integration.
  • Manage the arrangement and outfit design process, ensuring the timely delivery and adherence to budget.
  • Develop seamanship arrangements and medical arrangements, ensuring the safe operation of the ship and crew, and meeting all relevant safety and operational standards.
  • Lead the integration of equipment requirements for mission systems, ensuring effective layout and compatibility with other shipboard systems.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the interior design meets functional requirements, user needs, aesthetic standards, and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
  • Oversee the development of design documentation, including technical reports, specifications, drawings, and 3D models.
  • Ensure that the arrangement and outfitting designs comply with relevant industry standards, classification society rules, and maritime regulations.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to provide expert advice and support for project development and decision-making.
  • Drive innovation in arrangement and outfitting design practices, ensuring the integration of the latest technologies, mission modularity, uncrewed system integration, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Naval Architecture, or a related field, or suitable alternative experience.
  • Significant experience in arrangement and outfitting engineering, with a strong background in naval or marine engineering projects.
  • Extensive experience in developing complex ship general arrangementsandkey plans, particularly those that consider escape, evacuation, and rescue,access,storing,munitions, and removal routes.
  • Experience in integrating aviation requirements into ship designs, including aviation spaces such as flight decks, hangars, and aircraft handling systems.
  • Experience in developing seamanship arrangements,medical arrangements, and equipment integration requirementsformission systems.
  • An appreciation for the integration of mission modularity and the ability to design adaptable spaces that can accommodate evolving operational requirements and emerging technologies, including uncrewed systems.
  • Proven expertise in ship internal layout and outfitting design, including accommodation, machinery spaces, aviation areas, and operational spaces.
  • A strong focus on aesthetic styling of ship exterior lines aligned to ship functions, with the ability to integrate visual appeal and comfort into the design of crew spaces, while maintaining operational efficiency and safety.
  • Familiarity with naval and maritime design codes, including classification society rules and regulations.
  • Strong experience in using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • A deep understanding of ergonomics, functionality, and efficiency in the design of ship interiors.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to guide and mentor a team of engineers to achieve high levels of performance and innovation.
