Opportunities have arisen for Band 5 Staff Nurses on our Child and Adolescent General Adolescent Unit at The St Aubyn Centre in Colchester. These vacancies have arisen due to the Trust increasing our staffing establishment.

Longview is a 15-bedded GAU caring for young people aged 13 to 18 experiencing severe mental health problems. We work with young people who cannot be safely cared for in the community, including those experiencing Psychosis, Depression, Suicidal Ideation, and Self-Harm.

The unit is well-resourced, and you will be working as part of an extensive MDT comprising Family Therapists, Psychologists, Art and Drama Therapists, Psychotherapists, Ward Doctors, and Consultant Psychiatrists.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Working and supporting young people aged 13 to 18 as part of the MDT team.
2. Key working with young people.
3. Care planning in collaboration with your key child.
4. Writing reports and attending Ward Reviews.
5. Attending CPA meetings.
6. Communicating with families.

Staff Bank Information:

Role Responsibilities:

1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, including physical and psychological needs.
2. Act as key worker for a group of young people.
3. Deliver individualised care, supervise staff assessments, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
4. Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and carers.
5. Maintain confidentiality and effective communication at all times.
6. Be aware of the Mental Health Act 1983 and clients detained under its sections.
7. Supervise discharge and transfer planning in line with policies.
8. Monitor and document changes in patients\’ physical and mental states.
9. Support patients toward self-care and independence.
10. Use correct techniques for patient moving and handling.
11. Maintain a calm environment and establish professional, respectful relationships with patients.
