We are recruiting a Safeguarding and Risk Manager (SaRM) for the Learning Disabilities and Transitions service to support statutory safeguarding duties and risk management.

As a Safeguarding and Risk Manager, you will ensure the rights of adults with care and support needs are protected to live safely and free from harm, abuse, and neglect.

You will collaborate with care management and transition teams to safeguard vulnerable adults.

You should have significant social work experience, be a confident practitioner capable of making critical decisions, and support staff development. You will oversee safeguarding and risk screening & casework across the area alongside other Safeguarding and Risk Managers.

About you

As a Safeguarding & Risk Manager, you will:

  • Be a qualified and registered social worker, educated to degree level, with management experience.
  • Have extensive knowledge of safeguarding and legislative policies underpinning adult social care.
  • Have significant risk management experience, working with individuals and their representatives to minimize risks.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal empathetically with service users, relatives, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Be flexible and adaptable.
  • Have a good understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles.

About the role

You will work across Learning Disabilities and Transitions teams, collaborating with partner agencies and organizations.

Your role includes coaching, mentoring, developing safeguarding skills among colleagues, and managing complex cases with advanced expertise.

You will support staff in safeguarding and risk assessment, ensure training needs are met, and contribute to service quality assurance and development plans.

The role involves casework, developmental activities, and management support as needed.

Job Description

Purpose: To provide coaching and mentoring in safeguarding and risk management, developing colleagues’ skills and expertise.

The role involves casework, developmental activities, and management support based on service needs.

Responsibilities

  • Be an expert resource for staff on risk assessment and management, including chairing formal meetings.
  • Manage complex cases using advanced knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with team managers to support safeguarding and risk assessment activities.
  • Ensure staff training and development needs are met, contributing to development plans.
  • Support quality assurance and service development, especially in safeguarding and risk.
  • Manage complex cases and authorize care packages as directed.
  • Contribute to research, policy development, and staff training updates.
  • Develop safeguarding policies in collaboration with LSAB.
  • Act as a consultant providing advice, guidance, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Lead staff induction and identify training needs in safeguarding and risk management.
  • Deputize for the Service Delivery Manager, chair meetings, and lead projects.
  • Supervise staff on specific cases as required.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and promote equality and diversity.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent, approved by Social Work England, or Nursing qualification.
  • Registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council or Social Work England.
