Job Title: Student Finance Manager

Location: Oxford Road, Manchester

Salary: £46,735 – £57,422 per annum depending on relevant experience

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time (1 FTE)

The University of Manchester are seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Student Finance Manager to lead the Student Finance Team within the wider Student Admissions and Administration Team.

You will be responsible for the leadership and direction of the Student Finance team to ensure the delivery of the operational management of student finance processes to enable tuition fees and accommodation charges collection as well as the arrangements to support payments to students. This includes the Student Loan Company, US Loans provision and the Living Cost Support Fund. The role will involve collaboration and partnership working to deliver an end to end student finance service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead teams to deliver consistent, sustainable student finance services in partnership with Finance colleagues ensuring excellent services to students across organisation; in line with agreed standards and in response to changing needs
  • To lead on and oversee the provision of advice and guidance to University colleagues on key issues relating to student finance
  • To contribute to the continuous review and improvement of institution-wide strategy, policy and processes and systems – ensuring simplicity, consistency and agility – working in partnership with colleagues and key stakeholders across the University to meet collective business requirements
  • To lead the implementation, evaluation and monitoring of institution-wide strategy, policy and process at a local level, and lead the development and implementation of local procedures as necessary
  • To lead, organise, motivate and direct the work of the team, delegating responsibility to the appropriate level, ensuring that its objectives are met and it is operating efficiently and effectively

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive professional experience and evidence of progressive professional development
  • Proven record in effectively leading and managing a team with evidence of setting and achieving clear objectives and performance goals
  • Knowledge and understanding of current regulations and issues affecting tuition fees, accommodation charges and student funding
  • Significant experience of student finance and funding activities in higher education and the use of corporate systems to support these processes
  • Capacity to think in strategic terms and a willingness to exercise leadership including leading and managing significant cultural and organisational change
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence colleagues and work collaboratively across organisational boundaries in the pursuit of University strategies and their implementation at a local level
  • Strong negotiation and relationship building skills, the ability to influence others outside the direct sphere of control, and experience of matrix working
