Job Description:
Overview and Responsibilities
We are currently looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapist to contribute to and further develop an integrated Speech and Language Therapy service for students at Aurora Eccles (secondary) and White House (primary) Schools. The role involves providing a dynamic Speech and Language Therapy service within a multi-disciplinary team, undertaking all clinical duties within the ethical framework of professional conduct. The therapist will deliver high standards of assessment and intervention, including advice, training, and support to parents, carers, and professionals.
The schools, part of the Aurora Group, provide day placements for students aged 6 and above, mainly with communication and interaction difficulties, specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism spectrum conditions, or anxieties that hinder learning. Small class sizes (around 7 children) with dedicated staff and a full clinical team support personalized attention and effective therapy delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing students\’ speech, language, and social communication skills
- Writing assessment and progress reports for EHCP reviews
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing communication programs
- Delivering therapy interventions in various formats
- Creating visual supports like Social Stories and visual timetables
- Providing advice and support to educational teams, families, and carers
- Working multi-disciplinarily and multi-agency for complex needs
- Supporting staff training on communication topics
- Delegating tasks to therapy assistants when appropriate
- Contributing to service development plans

Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
- Professional Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge of therapy interventions suitable for the student cohort
- Understanding of behaviour support, trauma impact, autism spectrum conditions, safeguarding, and health and safety procedures
- Experience working with children or young people with learning disabilities and autism
- Experience within a multi-disciplinary team
Skills:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good time management and organization
- Ability to assess and implement therapy plans
- Proficient IT skills
Due to the rural location, candidates should have a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
