The Traveller Liaison Officer acts as a bridge between Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities and other organisations, including local councils, police, and landowners. The postholder provides advice, support, and acts as a point of contact for various needs, including health, welfare, housing, and education. The role facilitates communication between different parties involved in the support and well-being of the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities who reside on our sites or are transiting through the County.
The role also has responsibility for the management of unauthorised encampments (UE’s) across East Sussex. This includes undertaking welfare checks for people at the UE, assessing the community impact, responding to public concerns raised, and liaise with the police and legal services on the appropriate course of action with regards to moving on the encampment.
We are looking for candidates who are able to solve complex problems, develop solutions and welcome change. We are looking for someone to work collaboratively as a member of a team and be able to develop professional relationships across teams and services to achieve shared aims. Strong communication skills are required with a range of people in a clear, concise and accurate manner, changing messages and/or style to suit different audiences having good interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
