ABC Teachers are seeking people with experience of working with children and young adults who have a diagnosis of Autism to work in Calthorpe Academy in the centre of Birmingham, along with their sister sites of Belgravia School and Oaklands Academy.
About the role
As a Teaching Assistant supporting students with Autism in a specialist school setting, your role is crucial in fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment. You will provide individualized support, adapt teaching, and assist the classroom teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management. Employing positive behaviour support techniques, you help manage and reduce challenging behaviours while encouraging social interactions and emotional development. Through patience, empathy, and strong communication skills, you create a supportive atmosphere that enables students with ASC to thrive academically and socially.
About the school
ABC Teachers work in partnership with Calthorpe Academy in Birmingham where students have a diagnosis of Autism at different levels. The school has their main site in the City Centre, along with 2 separate Autism specialist sites at Belgravia School and Oaklands Academy. Students are at the heart of everything they do, embracing their differing needs and individual personalities through diverse curriculum. The schools have dedicated teams of specialist staff work tirelessly to ensure each student reaches their maximum potential. Calthorpe, along with their 2 additional sites, have specialized rooms for Food Technology, Science, Computing, Design Technology/Art, PE, sensory rooms, therapy rooms, and mental health well-being hubs to support their students learning and develop their skills for the future. Requirements
To be considered for the role of ASC Teaching Assistant you will:
- A Minimum of 1-year experience in a Special Educational Needs Setting, or personal experience with SEN Support.
- A DBS on the update service, or willingness to undergo a DBS Check.
- A passion for supporting and caring for young people with physical and learning disabilities.
- An Ability to work individually and take a proactive approach to student care and learning.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
- Minimum of 1-year experience in a Special Educational Needs Setting, or personal experience with SEN Support.
