We wish to appoint a suitably experienced and motivated candidate to join our Vascular Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the support of vascular services at RWT including vascular outpatients and day case theatres, with good exposure to renal access and endovenous procedures. A whole day per week is allocated to major vascular operating at Russells Hall to gain exposure to the full range of major vascular procedures (including AAA, carotid and lower limb revascularisation).

Emergency vascular experience is provided through a 1:8 out of hours vascular middle grade rota and a 1:8 emergency daytime cover at Russells Hall.

Main duties of the job

  • Assisting with the running of elective activities at New Cross hospital under the guidance of a Consultant (Outpatients and theatre lists).
  • Performing independent outpatient and day case sessions (dependent on clinical ability).
  • Review and management of vascular inpatients at RWT.
  • Providing inpatient vascular reviews to other specialities (principally Acute Medicine, diabetes, renal).
  • Supporting the 2 RWT Vascular Clinical Nurse specialists.
  • Participation in a 1:8 vascular on call rota non-resident 24 hour on-call.
  • Supervision of a core trainee assigned to vascular surgery.
  • Other duties to include: Undergraduate teaching, Audit and research

Job responsibilities

You will be responsible for the support of vascular services at RWT including vascular outpatients and day case theatres, with good exposure to renal access and endovenous procedures. A whole day per week is allocated to major vascular operating at Russells Hall to gain exposure to the full range of major vascular procedures (including AAA, carotid and lower limb revascularisation).

Emergency vascular experience is provided through a 1:8 out of hours vascular middle grade rota and a 1:8 emergency daytime cover at Russells Hall.

A major role is to support the Consultants and Vascular Nurse Specialists with timely vascular reviews of inpatient referrals admitted under other specialities including liaising with the Hub if transfer to the Hub is required.

Once sufficient clinical experience has been obtained there may be the opportunity of performing more independent outpatient and day case theatre activities under indirect supervision.
