Job Summary
At NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), our Plasma Collections team do something incredible every day. We are looking for Healthcare Assistants to join our Plasma Collections Centres. You will help ensure donors feel safe, special and well cared for, and create an experience they will want to return to time and time again.
Plasma is part of your blood. It’s rich in antibodies, which can be concentrated into immunoglobulin medicines that save or improve lives for thousands of people in England each year. These medicines are used to boost the immune system or calm it when it’s attacking the body.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver an exemplary donor experience while collecting plasma.
- Carry out pre-donation checks after training and assessment.
- Perform venipuncture (inserting a needle in the donor’s arm) and collect plasma.
- Observe the donor’s wellbeing during the process and manage adverse effects from donation.
- Handle plasma product bags, needles and related equipment daily.
- Work in line with regulatory clinical requirements and operational performance standards.
- Contribute to improving patients’ lives by collaborating with the Operational Nurse Team Leader and peers, and develop knowledge and skills through ongoing observations and feedback.
- Demonstrate NHS values and behaviours that drive inclusivity, safety, integrity, and respect for others.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of dealing with the public and putting the customer first.
- Experience of handling sensitive or confidential matters and understanding its relevance to the role.
- Experience of delivering quality customer service.
Qualifications and Training
- Ability to follow written instructions and develop underpinning knowledge for practical skills, with training and ongoing assessment.
- Willing to undertake further skill development and support training and induction of new team members where required.
