Junior Environmental Engineer
Job Title: Junior Environmental Engineer
Reporting to: Power Region Environmental Manager
Business Unit: Power Region (Renewables NI)
Role purpose
This role is pivotal in providing advice and feedback on sustainable practices and environmental compliance, whilst promoting innovation and eco-friendly initiatives.
The Environmental Engineer will work closely with BUGM, Project Managers, Quality & Design Engineers, SHEQ team members, and other members of the Power Region business units to ensure the safe & environmentally sustainable delivery of our Renewable and HV substation projects.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Environmental Strategy: Implement Omexom environmental management plans to support sustainability goals and ensure compliance with industry standards and ISO 14001 regulations. Use expertise and influencing skills to inspire a cultural transformation and the integration of environmentally sustainable behaviors and tools across the Omexom business.
- Audits and Assessments: Conduct environmental audits and impact assessments across projects to identify risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all statutory permissions, consents, licenses, and exemptions are obtained and complied with.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with Senior Managers, Project Managers, Contractors, and Clients to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and best practices.
- Coaching: Deliver training and workshops to teams on environmental policies, waste management, and resource optimization.
- Waste Management: Oversee waste management, including Site Waste Management Plan implementation and record-keeping.

Qualifications And Experience
- The jobholder shall be a motivated self-starter.
- Previous management experience including the ability and willingness to address poor performance.
- Good commercial awareness with ability to monitor and accurately report performance against pre-determined targets.
- A sound working knowledge of electrical infrastructure, safety rules/legislation, and CDM (UK)/Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.
- Demonstrate willingness and determination to grow in the role as part of the Omexom Environmental and sustainability team.
- Working towards a recognized qualification in Environmental Management.
- Awareness of environmental and carbon legislation and the broader climate change agenda.
- Experience communicating effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Good working knowledge of relevant computer packages including Microsoft Office products.
- Exceptional customer focus.
- A willingness to align with our values.
