We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and passionate English Tutor to deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills qualifications in English from Entry 1 to Level 2 to a class size of 12. In this role, you will support prisoners’ literacy development through tailored and engaging lessons. You’ll identify individual learning needs, creating personalised learning plans that align with each learner\’s long-term employment goals.

Working with a diverse group of learners, including those with neurodiverse needs, you’ll employ innovative methods to make literacy relevant and functional within the prison and beyond. Responsibilities include designing lessons that address social, employability, and communication barriers, guiding learners’ personal and academic growth, and preparing them for exams with necessary adjustments for additional needs. You will also promote reading for pleasure to support literacy improvement.

A restorative practice approach is central to this role, encouraging responsibility, reflection, and positive behaviour change. You’ll actively promote English across the prison, using innovative resources, including digital content, to enhance learning and demonstrate the relevance of literacy skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Support learners in building foundational literacy skills.

Enhance learners\’ reading, writing, and communication abilities.

Identify learners needing additional support and implement creative strategies for improvement.

Deliver engaging sessions that boost confidence and skills, linking personal development to long-term employment goals.

Requirements:

Full teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (or equivalent) is highly desirable.

A passion for motivating and leading in a classroom environment.

Experience in planning and delivering structured classroom programmes.

Proactive and resilient, with a passion for supporting learners in achieving their goals.

Working Hours:

This is a full-time role, 38.5 hours per week, with the following schedule:

Four days per week: 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM

One half-day per week: either 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM
