Job Description Summary

Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition.

GE Vernova’s Power Transmission Service business is responsible for after-sales support of our installed base of power transmission equipment, from erection and commissioning, through spare parts, maintenance and repair, to major overhaul and extension projects.

We are now looking for an experienced customer facing Sales Specialist to join our team and take responsibility for identifying, developing and securing new projects. Typical customers include Distribution and Transmission Network Operators, and both Renewable and Conventional Power Generation Companies.

Experience of the power transmission industry and after sales service would be an advantage, but enthusiasm, drive, and a proven track record of establishing long-lasting customer relationships and trust are paramount.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Establishing relationships at all levels within key customers, identifying stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Proactive approach to identifying upcoming projects.
  • Working with customers to develop specifications and scope of work.
  • Formulate the proposal strategy, deal structure, and work with the Tender Team to ensure GE’s offer accurately reflects the customer’s requirements.
  • Engage with subject matter experts and key internal stakeholders (Project Management, Field Service, H&S, Quality etc.) to ensure that the full scope of work is considered.
  • Develop recommendations for value based selling price.
  • Identify and communicate GE key differentiators.
  • Work with Legal Counsel to analyse and negotiate contract agreements.
  • Lead the deal approval process and ensure compliance with GE contracting guidelines.
  • Understand the customer approval process and key decision makers.
  • Depending on deal size, lead or assist with customer negotiations to close the deal.
  • Update the Service team on progress, input into workload management and scheduling.
  • Input to long term budgeting and planning processes.
  • Identify new growth opportunities, feedback into development of new products and services.
  • Utilise Lean methodologies to improve proposal process.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to develop an in-depth knowledge of key business drivers, their customers, sales territory, product lines, markets and sales processes.
  • Most decisions fall within a defined framework, but within those guidelines the successful candidate will have a degree of autonomy in the final deal for a customer project, product line, market, sales process or customers.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or similar is desirable but not necessary.
  • Vital to the role is a proven track record of building long-term customer relationships and trust, a broad understanding of the UK electricity network and customers, and experience in sales and proposal management.
  • A working knowledge of typical UK forms of contract, NEC, FIDIC etc. would be an advantage.

Desired Characteristics

  • The role will involve a significant amount of travel within the UK and occasionally overseas, and we are therefore looking for an individual who is able to work unsupervised, and to manage and prioritise their own workload.
  • Involved at an early stage in project development, an ability to logically and systematically analyse problems, develop options and to understand and discuss GE’s proposed solutions.
  • Often working to tight deadlines, the successful candidate will be able to engage with and to influence diverse stakeholders across the business to ensure their customer’s timescales are met.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary to develop an understanding of customer’s needs, to clearly communicate GE’s offer, and to communicate customer’s requirements and priorities to GE internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for securing their allocated target order intake, an ability to develop relationships and influence at all levels within a customer organisation.

Benefits

  • In return GE offers a package including competitive salary, a flexible benefits package including private health insurance, and a company car.

Working Arrangements

  • Flexible working arrangements including a mixture of home and office working are available, but it is anticipated that the extensive interactions necessary across multiple internal stakeholders will require the successful candidate to be in our Stafford offices on a regular basis.
  • A typical workweek is therefore likely to include at least 1 customer visit, and 2 or 3 days in our Stafford office.
