Job Description
Summary and purpose of position:
We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Transport Team Manager to lead our dynamic Transport Team at the Wincanton Sainsbury site in Waltham Abbey. In this key role, you will inspire, support, and manage team members to achieve performance targets and exceed operational expectations.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing the smooth and efficient operation of our busy transport department, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods while optimising resources and workflows. You will play a critical role in maintaining operational excellence by fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
As a Transport Team Manager, you will effectively manage driver resources, monitor shift performance, and ensure all deliveries are completed on time, in full, and in alignment with legal, safety, and regulatory requirements. Your leadership will be vital in meeting customer expectations and driving the success of our transport operations.
We operate 4 days on, 4 days off rotation pattern and are currently seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team.

Duties and responsibilities:
Report to Transport Shift Manager.
- Daily running of the Transport operation.
- Cover shift managers in busy periods.
- Ensuring completion of all administrative and legislative tasks required to maintain performance of the operation.
- To liaise with other departments to avoid delayed departures and/or deliveries.
- Liaise with maintenance providers to ensure availability of fleet for servicing.
- Achieve compliance with all internal and external audits.
- Clear communicated to the relevant area, should there be operational delays.
- Ensure Operational security requirements are adhered to.
- Collation and input of statistical information for various reports.
- Management of tachograph records for allocated driver team.
- Providing leadership and motivation for the admin team and driver team, including regular 121\’s, career plan discussions and succession planning.
- Conducting investigations within a timely manner
- Conducting accident investigations within a timely manner
- Assist with the management of vehicle defects through the VOR process.
- Actively be involved in the recruitment, training and coaching of all admin and driver colleagues.
- Management of the sickness absence process, including accurate record keeping and RTW interviews.
Experience, Skills, and Attributes:
- Will have sound knowledge of our Transport operating procedures across all areas of work.
- Attention to detail is key for this role as is the accuracy of information supplied.
- Experience within a transport/busy operational environment is desirable.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Well organised with the ability to priorities tasks as required.
- Understanding of drivers working time directive and EU regulations.
- A positive and flexible attitude to work being reliable and punctual.
- Comfortable working in a pressurised environment and to tight deadline and on your own initiative.
- Excellent computer skills are critical to this role specifically MS Office applications such as Word and Excel and knowledge of Distribution/Transport Systems would be advantageous.
