We are seeking an enthusiastic andhighly motivated Highly Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner / Highly SpecialistCardiac Physiologist / Clinical Scientist to work as part of our friendly teamproviding a Cardiology and Respiratory diagnostics service. The principal hospitals within County Durhamand Darlington NHS Foundation Trust are The University Hospital of NorthDurham, Darlington Memorial Hospital, Bishop Auckland Hospital and ShotleyBridge Hospital. The Cardiology &Respiratory Investigations Units comprise a team of approximately 40 staff whoprovide a broad range of invasive and non-invasive procedures includingechocardiography, stress echocardiography, trans-oesophageal echocardiography,diagnostic angiography, pacemaker implant / follow-up, complex device followup, tilt testing and nerve conduction studies. The hospital base for this postis the University Hospital of North Durham. We are actively developing servicesand we encourage personal development / extension of roles. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of a team in thebusy Cardio-Respiratory departments.They will be highly specialist in Cardiac Devices and Cardiac RhythmManagement and will have a responsibility for the delivery of the highestquality services within their team. They will perform a range of physiologicaltests available within the department and produce evidence based clinicalreports. They will provide training to other healthcare professionals andstudents and will supervise junior staff as well as deputise for more seniorstaff on occasions. They will work closely with colleagues to ensure thatprotocols and procedures meet local and national requirements for good practiceand service delivery.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients\’ homes.

Job responsibilities

The candidate will independently perform a range ofPhysiological investigations and be a specialist in Cardiac Device implant andfollow up and Cardiac Rhythm Management, and will derive clinical reports fromhighly specialist diagnostic and follow up procedures. They must have experience of working in aCardiac Investigations department at band 6 level and have achieved the minimumacademic qualifications in the Person Specification. They must be registered on the AHCS / HCPC register.

They must have BHRS Certification / HRUK Certification /IBHRE Allied Professionals Certified Cardiac Device Specialist Exam. They mustmaintain membership and certification / accreditation with BHRS / IBHRE

They must hold a current certificate inImmediate Life Support, or be willing to undertake this within 6 months ofemployment.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science: Cardiac Physiology or MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac Science) or equivalent, with acceptance onto AHCS / HCPC professional register.
  • BHRS certification / HRUK certification / IBHRE Allied Professionals Certified Cardiac Device Specialist exam.
  • Immediate Life Support certificate, or be willing to undertake this within 6 months of employment

Statutory Registration

  • Registered with AHCS or HCPC

Experience

  • Significant experience in the field of Cardiac Rhythm Management/Devices with highly Specialist knowledge.
  • Experience at Specialist level (Band 6 level) or equivalent.
  • Experience of working within a Cardiac investigations Unit.
  • Experience of a broad range of diagnostic procedures within Cardiology.
  • Experience of audit and quality assurance programmes
  • Experience of training staff from a range of disciplines.
