The Team

We are looking for passionate individuals to join our Power, Utilities and Water team within the Asset Management Advisory (AMA) team, part of the KPMG Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG). Our team advises infrastructure owners in both the public and private sector, including government, with their most complex challenges. IAG is widely recognised as one of the world\’s leading independent financial and business advisers in infrastructure consisting of over 380 professionals.

Our team leads exciting projects across both public and private sectors principally focused on major capital and infrastructure portfolios in Water, Energy, Transport, Defence, Oil and Gas, Property and Health. This is a fast-growing area offering many opportunities, building upon a global capability in Asset Management where we provide:

  • Asset Strategy and Transformation, including operating model design and transformation of asset management functions.
  • Asset Health and Performance including investment planning, efficiency improvements in capital and operating expenditure, as well as asset resilience, asset data, investment business cases and benchmarking.
  • Digital asset management including asset data, analytics, smart technology, enterprise solutions and financial modelling.
  • Investor assurance of asset performance and transaction due diligence support.
  • The work is varied, fast-paced, often high-profile and rewarding. We are working with leaders in the public sector and industry partners on issues including Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), resilience of the UK\’s utilities sector in the face of climate change and the future structure of the rail sector. We are looking for people with a passion for identifying, creating and delivering transformative solutions which help our public and private clients to deliver some of the largest and most complex infrastructure programmes in the UK, while maintaining delivery of key business and customer outcomes.

    The Role

    We are seeking a water focussed Associate Director, with outstanding asset management, asset health and investment planning skills, gained from the water industry and/or management consultancy experience. You should have an excellent industry network and be seen as an expert within the asset management field.

    This role is critical in leading client workstreams, supporting business development and helping our team to grow and develop. Key areas you will contribute to the team include:

  • Delivering large, complex client engagements, operating at board level and the level below.
  • Management of KPMG teams whilst on client engagements, the AMA team and across the business.
  • Focusing the deployment of asset management capability on client engagement and within KPMG.
  • Managing the use and development of Asset Management tools and methodologies across the team and within client engagements.
  • Engaging with global teams, including the Global Asset Management community to leverage resources and capabilities, developing robust approaches to the supporting service lines.
  • Managing the day-to-day relationship with key client contacts, ensuring our service is responsive to their needs.
  • Managing client engagement teams and delivery of work to clients, ensuring the production of high-quality deliverables.
  • Financial management, ensuring timely raising of fee notes and assisting in the recovery of fees, and keeping clients informed of costs and time incurred on an appropriately regular basis.
  • Ensuring KPMG\’s compliance, quality and risk management procedures are completed to the appropriate standard.
  • Proactively keeping up to date with Asset Management thinking on a global level.
  • Supporting the development of the KPMG AMA brand with thought leadership and speaking engagements.
  • Team Contribution:

  • Identifying opportunities with existing client engagements to add further value and meet a client need, resulting in extensions to assignments or providing further expertise to an existing team.
  • Building relationships and identifying opportunities where KPMG can help clients to convert opportunities into new assignments.
  • Leading on client proposals and other business development initiatives including the development of AMA market propositions.
  • Coaching and mentoring other staff to develop their business development skills.
  • Being a role model for junior staff and the firm\’s values.
  • The Person

    We are seeking water focussed asset management professionals who have experience applying their knowledge of asset management and asset health to solve business and engineering challenges. The individual much be proactive, able to work at pace and provide practical solutions that deliver value to our clients. The individual must have the ability to deal with ambiguity and to put in place frameworks to structure their thinking and communicate effectively to stakeholders. A track record of delivering high quality outputs and an extensive industry network is essential.

  • Demonstrate high levels of drive, ambition and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be good team players who work with colleagues and has experience leading teams in a collaborative and inclusive way.
  • Be comfortable handling ambiguity and responding to changing client demands.
  • Experience engaging with Board-level representatives on strategic asset management topics.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of asset management challenges with a focus on Power & Utilities and Water.
  • A good understanding of asset management principles and how to apply them to address business challenges.
  • Assessing and understanding risks at both a business and an asset portfolio level.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
