Temporary Band 7 Mortuary Manager
Location: Bath
Hourly Rate: £25.10
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 16:30

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Band 7 Mortuary Manager to provide temporary cover within a respected NHS Trust based in Bath. This position is offered on a full-time basis for a fixed term to support the service during a short-term period of leave.
Role Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and daily operation of the mortuary service, ensuring that all activities are carried out in compliance with relevant legislation, including the Human Tissue Act, and internal policies and procedures. The role requires effective coordination of post-mortem services, staff supervision, and close liaison with internal departments and external agencies including pathologists, funeral directors, and the Coroners Office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the mortuary, ensuring high standards of service delivery
- Ensure compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) standards and local governance policies
- Supervise, support, and manage mortuary staff, providing leadership and direction
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Liaise with a range of professionals including clinicians, bereavement teams, and external service providers
- Uphold the highest standards of dignity, respect, and care for the deceased and their families
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or equivalent qualification)
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Anatomical Pathology Technologist
- Significant post-qualification experience within a mortuary environment, including experience at a supervisory or management level
- Comprehensive knowledge of mortuary legislation, HTA standards, and best practice procedures
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
