Consultant Ecologist – Southern Ecological Solutions (SES)
Join our growing team as a Consultant Ecologist at Southern Ecological Solutions (SES), a vibrant member of the RSK Group. This full‑time, permanent position offers a hybrid working model and is ideal for candidates within commuting distance to our Essex office.

Your Role
- Conduct field surveys and manage schedules to meet project deadlines.
- Perform preliminary ecological appraisals following published guidelines.
- Oversee a range of projects from small‑scale developments to complex mitigation programmes.
- Coordinate ecological surveys and ensure timely, accurate delivery.
- Manage key project milestones, dates, and on‑site survey timetables across multiple projects.
- Engage actively with the ecology team and broader SES team, promoting our business and maintaining high standards of reputation and performance.
What We’re Looking For
- Hold a degree in ecology or a related field, or possess significant experience within a professional ecological consultancy.
- Demonstrate a successful track record in project management, conducting surveys, and supporting team members in a consultancy setting.
- Possess strong ecological knowledge, including legislation and survey techniques, and be able to conduct protected species surveys and develop mitigation strategies.
- Have strong botanical survey identification skills, accurately assessing and recording plant species.
- Understand relevant planning policy, such as the NPPF and Local Plans, and the application of protected species planning policies.
- Be knowledgeable about current protected species mitigation licensing processes and their application in ecological consultancy.
- Have experience in ecological assessments and surveys for various development projects, including housing, commercial, transportation, and power sectors.
