Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You\’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you\’ll do at work

Undertaking statutory audit and preparation of accounts, reports and ad-hoc assignments under the supervision of the Audit/Accounts Supervisor and Audit/Accounts Manager.

This will include:

  • Co-ordinating fieldwork at clients\’ premises which will include drafting reports covering financial statements, client business issues, systems and controls
  • Involvement in the planning and execution of audit assignments
  • Preparing analysis of accounting data from clients books and records, either electronically or via paper-based files
  • Assisting within the wider team by obtaining audit evidence necessary to support opinions given
  • Building professional relationships with new and established clients
  • Carrying out ad-hoc assignments as may be reasonably required by your team
  • Participating in group and firm-wide activities

What you\’ll learn

  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation\’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

  • Advanced Diploma – AAT Level 3 Advanced builds on the knowledge gained in the Foundation level
  • If you work in accounts or have studied accountancy before, you may be able to start at this level
  • You\’ll learn complex accounting techniques, and master a number of accounting disciplines including financial processes, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts and ethical practices for accountants
  • This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting
  • You\’ll develop the technical skills to start, or progress, your career in accountancy and this will allow you to continue with your studies onto Level 4
  • To pass this level you\’ll need to study five units (also known as subjects), which are all mandatory
  • Four of the units are examined individually and there is also a synoptic assessment that you\’ll take towards the end of the level

Requirements
Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 9-5)
  • Maths (grade 9-5)

A Level or equivalent in:

Any x 2 (grade A-C)

Other requirements

Salary for this role is between 16-22k Parking is not provided on site, not always guaranteed but there are car parks of close proximity as well as multiple bus and train links. Although not essential, it would be preferable for candidates to be able to drive or be working towards passing their driving test and preferably own a car as they may be required to travel in accordance with the job role and on limited occasions, stay overnight in hotel accommodation. 20 days\’ holiday plus Statutory Bank Holiday with the option to purchase a further five days\’ annual leave in accordance with the firm\’s flexible benefits scheme. Full study support to study the AAT, including day release.
