Position Summary

The post-holder reports for clinical supervision to the NYU Assistant Director, Global Clinical Services, and to the Vice President for Student Mental Health, will participate in regularly scheduled individual and group clinical supervision meetings, and will otherwise collaborate with NY based colleagues as required; for other duties and administration the post-holder reports to the Site Director, NYU London (NYUL).The post-holder has responsibility for providing on-site, expert mental health support and counseling services to members of the NYULcommunity (approximately 600 undergraduate and graduate students during the academic semesters and 150 students during January term and summer), and an ability to coordinate support for physical health issues.The post-holder has responsibility for proposing, organizing and implementing programs and services related to the mental wellbeing of the student population. The post holder will work with other professionals at NYUL who are responsible for other aspects of student health including ensuring immunization compliance of the NYUL population. The post holder will create and deliver health promotion and orientation programming related to wellness needs of NYUL students and will deliver relevant wellness training to faculty and staff at NYUL including detecting students in distress, responding to matters of sexual misconduct, etc. The post-holder works closely both with NYUL colleagues and those based at NYU in New York City.
Duties and Responsibilities – 80%

Provide clinical assessment, short-term psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention to student population while at NYU London; build close working relationships with external mental health providers (including psychiatrists) and other medical professionals from whom NYUL students seek care. Clinical work will be in areas such as depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, acculturation stress, acute stress, culture shock, bipolar disorder, students exhibiting psychotic symptoms, interpersonal conflict, substance abuse, PTSD, decision-making, eating disorders, etc. Refer students to other/external health care providers, as needed

Provide confidential consultations to NYUL students involved in sexual misconduct matters to ensure that all options available to them are fully understood and that victims have immediate access to any and all appropriate services, including emergent medical care and guidance on criminal proceedings and processes. At their request, the post-holder will also join students at any meetings necessary including Community Standard hearings or reports to the police.The post-holder will also help students discuss what happened with their parents, if they wish.

Collaborate closely with NYU’s Counseling and Wellness Services and with NYU’s Student Health Center in planning strategies for incoming students identified with mental or physical health needs and in creating emergency response plans for London based students who are exhibiting concerning symptoms

Maintain confidential written records of all counseling contacts with students on the NYU Student Health Centre electronic health record

Conduct assessments of student mental health issues and provide support regarding physical health concerns.

Facilitate student navigation of the local health care system, including hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies.

Assist students with University health compliance issues relating to immunizations, health history forms, insurance, etc.

Collaborate with NYU and local administrators, physicians, and mental health professionals to provide appropriate health resources and support for individual casesand for the NYUL community

Propose and conduct relevant health-related programs, events, activities, and training, focusing on prevention, awareness, and wellness

Serve 24-hour on call for crisis situations relating to health. Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on the front line of health emergencies.

Intervene personally where necessary (e.g. to assess for presence of suicidal ideation or other significant risk, assault of any kind, injury, attempted suicide, etc.). Communicate fully with NYU Counseling and Wellness Services as to the plan for emergency intervention

Provide emergency support, including after hours, to registered NYU students enrolled at the NYUL site as well as those visiting London from other NYU sites

Propose, produce, or procure health promotion materials and supplies in collaboration with NYU offices or approved external providers

Track wellness-related cases and services for end of program review. Collect feedback about health services and prepare reports

Be a visible source of support to the student community through participation at orientation sessions, availability in the Academic Center and presence in the residences

Provide training as required for Student Life and residential staff

Assist the Site Director of NYUL as requested for the successful running of the programs
The post holder may also be called upon to: – 20%
- Coordinate support for physical health issues;
- Work with other professionals at NYUL who are responsible for other aspects of student health;
- Provide group psychotherapy to students who are studying at NYUL;
- Carry out a risk assessment of a high risk student;
- Be a visible source of support to the student community; and
- Assist the Site Director as requested for the successful running of the programmes.
Qualifications
Required Education: Applicants must have a relevant academic degree and must hold the proper license or accreditation to legally provide counselling services in the UK, e.g., BACP, UKCP, HCPC, BPS.Accepted degrees include an M.A. or Ph.D. in Social Work, Counselling or Psychotherapy, or a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:● Must be adept at working in a fast paced environment while simultaneously ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of clinical documentation.● Must be able to strictly follow privacy and confidentiality guidelines in order to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.● A demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse and welcoming environment, as evidenced by prior successful and innovative measures.● Understanding and empathy with the needs and expectations of international students.● Ability to gather and report information accurately, clearly and concisely.● Enthusiastic team-player with the ability to build relationships with colleagues and students.● Strong organisational ability.● Computer literate.● Excellent written and oral skills.Preferred Experience● University counselling experience is preferred.● Knowledge of the U.S. university system is desirable.● Good working experience of using MS Office and Google Suite.
