Abacus Careers is pleased to be working closely with one of Northern Ireland\’s \’Big 4\’ Banks as they enter the local market to appoint a suitable professional to the position of \’Credit Manager\’. This is a new role created due to internal promotion. We are keen to engage with experienced Business/Corporate Bankers or Corporate Finance Managers (Qualified Accountants from medium to large firms).
This is a superb opportunity to work with an elite team of experienced professionals who oversee and sign off on all credit applications made to the bank. It is a highly responsible and visible role for a seasoned professional confident in their technical and interpersonal abilities.
The successful candidate will join arguably the most well-recognised and highest-profile banking institution at its Belfast HQ.
The job
This role involves analyzing sustainability-led applications to support customers in their transition strategies, developing expert credit skills across various sectors, and engaging commercially with first-line colleagues to provide value-added input and challenge, thereby contributing to growth objectives while managing risk.
Other responsibilities include identifying key portfolio issues, implementing change management initiatives, and scoping and delivering training for Credit and first-line colleagues. The role may also require deputising for the Senior Manager or co-presenting cases with the Head of Credit UK in forums with Group Credit, and managing customers experiencing financial difficulties within the C&B Special Credits unit.
What skills / qualifications will you need?
- Experience as a financial professional or Credit Manager within a Corporate Banking/Finance environment, comfortable interacting with Senior Corporate & Business Relationship Managers.
- Experience dealing with customers and businesses in NI and the UK across sectors such as trading, housing, renewables, and real estate.
- Proven ability to make logical, well-balanced decisions under pressure with complex data.
- Strong customer and business focus, supporting customer satisfaction and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of core lending facilities and ancillary lines.
- Well-developed influencing skills, with the ability to present analysis and underpin recommendations.
- Strong communication skills in credit decision forums and digital environments.
- Experience building successful stakeholder relationships.
- Understanding of the NI market position, customer proposition, and values.
- Experience in cross-functional change management in dynamic environments.
- Over 5 years’ relevant experience, ideally with a business degree or postgraduate qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, MBA, or Institute of Bankers.
- Ideally, developed profile in the NI Corporate Banking market and a network of contacts in intermediaries.
