About the Group

The Public Spending Group is a high-profile and rewarding place to work.  We help the Chancellor decide what to spend £1.2trillion a year on and ensure government delivers value for money for the taxpayer. We are responsible for reporting to Parliament and the public on how taxpayers’ money is spent. We drive forward improved outcomes and efficiency in public services and make sure value for money is at the centre of decision-making through better evaluation, data and analysis. 

We advise on overall government policy on public sector pay and pensions, the biggest single driver of public spending. We collaborate with and directly support departments to deliver the Government Finance Function strategy, building finance, debt and risk capability across government and developing the management information, tools and frameworks to better understand and ensure value for money.

The Government Finance Function (GFF)

The GFF ensures that finance is at the heart of decision making in Government – delivering value for money, strengthening public trust.

The Finance Function comprises of over 8,500 FTE spread across 39 Government organisations.

The GFF launched the Strategy 2030 earlier in 2025, which sets the direction for the function for the next 5 years, encouraging finance teams to be more skilled, innovative, and insightful.

About the Job

This role sits within the People & Capability team.

In this role, you will:

  1. Lead on stakeholder relationship with Government Skills Campus (GSC)
  2. Oversee the creation and launch of an engaging, interactive digital brochure or platform that showcases the full GFA curriculum and focuses on enhanced user accessibility.
  3. Growth in Role (GiR) – Working with G7 Leads to develop and promote tailored ‘Growth in Role’ learning packages for the GFF community, ensure these packages are relevant, well-communicated, and support ongoing professional development
  4. Design and deliver effective internal and external induction materials and processes to ensure new joiners and existing staff are aware of, and able to access, GFA resources from day one.
  5. Develop a compelling engagement strategy and proactively promote GFA offerings through a variety of channels
  6. Working with GFF Comms and Engagement team to ensure that communications from across the P&C team are advertised in a timely manner.
  7. Support G7 Leads that oversee People & Capability Networks (Sustainable Finance Network and Finance Business Partner Network) with the running of network meetings and organising of inclusive events that foster collaboration, knowledge sharing and a strong sense of community.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Be confident and effective communication skills both orally and in writing, with people within and outside the GFF
  • Have strong organisational and partner management skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of partners across boundaries, making connections and bringing people along with you. A strong team player with the ability to work flexibly across a demanding but rewarding team
  • Have the ability to use a range of source to develop strong recommendations
  • Experience working in Finance Function/ Learning / L&D and a passion for building skills and capability across government with an understanding of the Government Finance Academy
