This is an exciting opportunity for an academic optometrist to join the Department of Optometry as a Lecturer. We are seeking to grow and expand the optometry team as part of our plans to develop optometry at Huddersfield.

The Department is part of the School of Applied Sciences, which includes the subject areas of Pharmacy and Life and Physical Sciences. Optometry enjoys purpose-built and fully equipped teaching and clinical areas, part of a ~£18.2 million development in the School of Applied Sciences in 2019. The Department also hosts, unique to optometric education in the UK, the joint-venture clinical enterprise, University Valli Opticians, where students develop key clinical skills within an operating optical business. The Department also hosts a dedicated research centre: Centre for Vision across the Life Span (CVLS), which includes facilities for research in visual psychophysics, accommodation and myopia, and retinal imaging and other areas. https://research.hud.ac.uk/institutes-centres/centres/vals/

To complement our existing team, you will be an engaging teacher, keen to conduct high-quality research and who can contribute to our strategic ambitions. You should have knowledge of contemporary optometry practice and awareness of developments and changes in healthcare education.

With a PhD (or requirement to submit within the first 6 months of appointment) in a relevant area and GOC professional registration as an optometrist, you will have a commitment to providing innovative, student-centred learning experiences. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the capacity to obtain this within 12 months of appointment is also required.

Your optometric background and experience will enable you to deliver high-quality education to our optometry students. You will also work alongside your colleagues in shared teaching and learning modules, so it is essential that you have good collaborative and interprofessional working skills. An ability to conduct independent research and produce high-quality research outputs is also important.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.
