Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness
Salary: £50,100 – £75,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
The Energy Policy Manager plays a key role in the Energy System Modelling team within the Strategic System Planning function which develops the future pathways for the development of the transmission network for the North of Scotland in national contexts and provides critical input into SSEN Transmission\’s strategic planning, business plans and strategy development.
You will
- Maintain, in consultation with internal and external stakeholders, a close awareness and understanding of any policy, industry, technology, market, national or global factors that would impact on SSEN Transmission and make recommendations for change accordingly.
- Gather data and evidence to understand energy users, generators and flexibility providers\’ behaviours, value chains and market conditions that impact upon supply and demand.
- Build an understanding of how different energy technology types interact with the energy grids and with each other, and feed the findings into network system plans, investment decisions and strategic decisions.
- Work with a broad cross-section of the Business Planning and Commercial directorate, wider Networks business and corporate support services including development, engineering, customer experience, finance, regulation and corporate affairs, with stakeholders at all levels.
- Establish strong relationships with key external stakeholders in the fields relevant to SSEN Transmission. Such engagement to include, but not be limited to, governments, regulators, statutory consultees, consumer groups, other network companies, supply chain and technology providers, and other relevant parties / experts.
You have
- Experience within a similar energy policy, business development and/or consulting role. Ability to conduct independent research and secure buy-in from senior decision makers.
- A good understanding of energy technology models, economics, policies, commercial arrangements, GB energy networks and GB energy markets will be useful.
- Ability to challenge, question and operate outside your field of expertise, confidently engaging with technical, financial and engineering specialists to gather relevant information.
- Demonstrable experience creating positive work relationships with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders in public and private sectors.
- Numerate skills, presentation skills, curiosity, commitment, a good work discipline and willingness to learn. You will become technology experts, problem solvers, critical thinkers, future strategists, analytical communicators and team-focused collaborators.
