Clinical Fellow ST1+ in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The closing date is 10 July 2025

Applications are invited for a Trust Doctor ST1 equivalent in Obstetrics and Gynaecology based at Worthing Hospital from August 2025 for 2 x 12 month contracts.The job involves a rotation including long days, weekend days on call and a set of nights on call every 8 weeks with compensatory time off following.

The rolling rota of long days and night shifts will be available prior to starting the job.

An early pregnancy assessment clinic (EPAC) runs Monday to Friday.

Worthing Hospital has a full range of both day surgery and more complex open surgery.

There are MDMs which afford excellent teaching opportunities.

Colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopy lists are performed at Worthing Hospital.

University Hospitals Sussex has an excellent postgraduate education centre on both sites with easy access to IT and library support.

Simulation both low and high-fidelity sessions, Laparoscopic simulator, and Ultrasound Scan Simulation (USS) training are well established in Worthing Medical Education Centre.

Resident doctors are encouraged to perform audits, projects and to publish articles. All educational supervisors are experienced in the use of E-portfolio and WPBA tools.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:Work on labour ward, ward work, attendance in clinic, theatres and covering the gynaecology emergency and early pregnancy clinics are part of the daily duties. There is a registrar (second tier) present on call 24 hours and a consultant present for 65 hours a week and then on call from home.

The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed betweenthe professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Experience/ Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
  • Higher Degree

Clinical Skills and Experience

  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences form a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standard/Good Medical Practice
  • Previous Obstetrics and Gynaecology experience

Knowledge

  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty

Organisation and Planning

  • Able to organise oneself and prioritise clinical need
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
