Job Description
Regional & City Airports (RCA) is a leading operator of UK regional airports, with a growing portfolio that includes Bournemouth, Coventry, Exeter, and Norwich Airports. In addition, RCA operates XLR Executive Jet Centres and provides consultancy services across the aviation industry.
Bournemouth Airport is the busiest airport in the group and is currently experiencing rapid growth. Due to the planned retirement of the current post holder in October 2025, we’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Operations Director to lead our team and support the continued development of this exciting business.
The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a high-profile role at one of the UK’s busiest regional airports, as we continue to expand and evolve. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and managing all airside operations to ensure safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all airside operations to ensure compliance with EASA regulations, the Air Navigation Order, and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements.
- Develop and implement strategies that maintain high standards of safety, operational efficiency, and customer service.
- Act as the accountable manager for all aerodrome certifications and operational requirements.
- Drive a safety-first culture across all operational areas, ensuring robust safety management systems and continuous improvement.
- Manage key stakeholder relationships including airlines, regulatory authorities, local authorities, and community groups.
- Oversee the operational budget, ensuring financial efficiency and that performance targets are met.
- Foster a culture of excellence, developing and motivating the operations team to deliver high-quality services in line with regulatory and company standards.
- Lead operational contingency planning and business continuity, ensuring the airport is prepared for any emergency or operational disruption.
- Actively contribute to strategic planning, decision-making, and the long-term development of the airport.
The Person:
- Degree level or equivalent qualification in aviation or a related discipline, or significant relevant experience in the aviation industry.
- Proven track record of strategic leadership in a highly regulated, operational environment, preferably within the aviation sector.
- In-depth knowledge of airport operations, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage costs and drive operational efficiencies.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership capabilities, with a focus on team development, motivation, and fostering a positive and achievement-driven culture.
- Demonstrable experience in managing compliance and safety management systems to regulatory standards.
