Job Summary
The post involves taking a lead in promoting psychological ways of understanding and working across adult mental health, including service development and application of evidence-based, trauma informed care within LPMHSS. This will include undertaking complex clinical work, developing and delivering group programmes, providing training, supervision, formulation and professional reflective spaces for colleagues in psychology and other disciplines. They will also be expected/supported to undertake further training in relevant specialist areas, monitor and evaluate service developments and provide regular reports as appropriate. This post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service\’s policies and procedures.

We are in the position to recruit Psychologists who already have the competence and experience relevant to an 8a position, or Psychologists who meet the qualification, training and competence for a band 7 post. In the case of the latter, we are able to offer a professional knowledge and skills-based development programme that will provide you with the opportunity to acquire the appropriate skills and competencies to enable your progression into the 8a role within an appropriate timescale via the annual PDR procedure.
We are looking to recruit a practitioner psychologist to provide specialist provision within CTM\’s LPMHSS. The successful candidate will join a diverse and passionate team of psychologists and therapists working across CTM. Senior colleagues will provide support and mentoring to the successful candidate to develop within the post, and to engage in CPD.
The LPMHSS Psychological Therapists are also currently engaged in an exciting period of service development where there are many opportunities to be involved and work within your area of interest.
LPMHSS is Lead by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Senior Nurse. We have close links with both the clinical and counselling doctorate in South Wales and consistently have trainees on placement with us.

- Essential
- Qualifications: Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS or registered for, and actively pursuing, the Statement of Equivalence in Clinical Psychology.
- Eligibility for registration with the Health Professions Council.
- Knowledge – Essential: Risk assessment and management; knowledge of relevant legislation; working knowledge of practices of other disciplines and agencies in care and management networks.
- Desirable – Welsh Language Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3/B2 or above
- Experience – Essential: Experience with a wide variety of client groups across the life span and clinical severity; applying psychology in different cultural contexts addressing socio-economic deprivation or marginalization; experience with risky clients.
- Desirable: Experience of working in multi-professional teams or services.
