The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician to join our service providing specialist support to the Biologics Engineering (BE) department. The successful candidate will report to the Avantor Research Services Manager and will be tasked managed on a day-to-day basis within the client environment.

BE is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs, such as antibodies, across all the therapy area drug discovery pipelines within AstraZeneca, including Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory and Immunology (R&I). In addition to pipeline work, BE is also at the forefront of developing cutting edge biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to support future drug discovery efforts.

AVANTOR Services offers a wide range of laboratory support services designed to save our customers time and money. These services range from centralised glass washing to research technician activities. However, they all share a central theme in supporting our customers and allowing them to recover valuable research time to increase the productivity of their labs.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician to join our service providing specialist support to the Biologics Engineering (BE) department. The successful candidate will report to the Avantor Research Services Manager and will be tasked managed on a day-to-day basis within the client environment.

Key Tasks

  • Prepares solutions, buffers and reagents relating to protein engineering and assay based techniques, in accordance with standard procedures
  • Performs and monitors use of supplies, reagents and equipment. Places orders for replacements as required
  • Assists with maintaining tidiness and cleanliness of multiple labs
  • Designs and implements solutions for increased efficiency in the labs
  • Ensures own work is compliant with Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

  • Previous lab technician, including experience working with SHE policies and procedures
  • Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised to deadlines. Planning, organising and setting priorities for own work showing well developed organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to deal promptly, effectively and courteously with requests for information or service and to use initiative in solving problems and responding to queries ensuring compliance with standard procedures and practices
  • Computer literate: articulate, confident and competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with experience of using databases and presenting data using standard techniques e.g. spreadsheets, computerised reports etc.
