Overview
Avantor is looking for an experienced and lab-savvy Research Technician (Protein Sciences) to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position, you\βll join the Protein Science Group and play a vital role in supporting E. coli protein expression workflows, including small-scale screening and large-scale growths of up to 130-150 L per month. You\βll be responsible for maintaining sterile conditions and ensuring rigorous decontamination procedures to support high-quality, contamination-free research.
This role is a full-time, permanent position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site β The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. In addition to an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits such as a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 β 17:00
The Team
You\βll join a wider team of 20 scientists and hold a key position β you\βll be essential to enabling our scientists to complete their projects. You\βll be part of our business department, Lab and Production Services, which supports major pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.
Education
What we\βre looking for
- A Bachelor\βs degree in a science-related discipline (Biological Sciences preferred), or equivalent experience in a protein or cell science laboratory
Experience
- 1-year proven experience in a laboratory-based environment in a similar role (protein/cell culture laboratory)
- Experience in growing cell cultures and preparing large-scale media
- Proficiency in sterile techniques
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly in a team with minimal direct supervision
- Experience in identifying, implementing, and sharing continuous improvement processes
- Proven ability to manage customer expectations and deliver a professional level of customer service
How you will thrive and create an impact
- Perform E. coli small-scale expression screening and large-scale growths (up to 130-150 L per month), which are essential for the Protein Science team\βs research and development activities
- Contribute to projects aimed at optimising our E. coli expression platforms, with potential to gain experience in other related protein techniques
- Maintain strict sterile conditions and ensure thorough decontamination procedures are followed at all times to support high-quality and contamination-free results
- Take responsibility for a range of laboratory duties, including consumable management and general housekeeping
- Conduct data entry and analysis using a range of computer software, including Excel and GeneData Biologics
